We are happy to announce that Control Union offers flustix certification! flustix is an independent certification system that identifies products and packaging that significantly reduce or eliminate plastic. The flustix certification seal is a reliable indicator that a product has undergone rigorous testing and meets defined standards for plastic content in product, packaging, or both. flustix certification aims to make sustainability transparent and trustworthy, as well as to empower businesses to demonstrate environmental responsibility and help consumers make informed, eco-friendly choices.
The certification program is based on international and national standards and is constantly being updated in accordance to them. Because of that, flustix certification supports companies in complying with relevant and emerging EU regulations, such as Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) or the Green Claims Directive.
There are four flustix certification programs offered by Control Union:
flustix LESS PLASTICS Total Product
The product and packaging are both subject to the assessment. The two components are tested independently of each other and must meet the certification requirements in their respective segments in order to be successfully licensed. Тhe product must be verifiably at least 99.25% plastic-free and the packaging must be at least 95% plastic-free to achieve LESS PLASTICS Total Product certification.
flustix LESS PLASTICS Packaging
For successful LESS PLASTICS Packaging certification, the packaging must be at least 95% plastic-free. The threshold value is based on the requirements of the PPWR. Particularly in industries where the complete elimination of plastic is not feasible, companies can transparently demonstrate to stakeholders that they are saving plastic in their packaging. Packaging that bears the LESS PLASTICS seal may be disposed of and recycled in the main material component’s recycling stream. In order to promote innovation, a three-stage evaluation system is used to indicate a plastic-free rate of at least 96.5% and 98% on the certificate and seal.
flustix LESS PLASTICS Product
flustix LESS PLASTICS Product is a certification scheme for low-plastic products that either are or have to be packaged in plastic. Companies can set an example with a LESS PLASTICS product certification and labeling of their products – for the benefit of the environment as well as the customer’s satisfaction. The LESS PLASTICS Product certification is awarded depending on the product category and material of the product to be certified. The certification is based on specific limit values that are aligned with international standards. The limit values range from at least 97% to verifiably at least 99.8% plastic-free. There are no requirements regarding the plastic content of the packaging.
flustix PRODUCT CONTENT MICROPLASTIC-FREE
This flustix seal certifies products, especially liquid or water-soluble product contents, that are free from added microplastics. The certification requirements are based on the only internationally recognised and followed microplastic definition according to REACH/ECHA. The certificate is issued based on laboratory testing and independent conformity assessment of the results. This certification scheme is available to a broad range of product categories, including but not limited to:
- Cosmetics & Personal Care
- Detergents, Cleaners, and Cleaning Agents (DCC)
- Home, Garden, and Agricultural Products
- Fish and Seafood, Sea Salt, Mineral Water
